What if the engine oil foams?

How many problems can foaming oil create for a car owner? This is especially unpleasant for an inexperienced motorist who has just learned to drive. An experienced motorist can guess the reasons and find possible solutions to the problem. But even with an experienced driver, finding a solution will take many hours, if not days. What is the threat? Foamed engine oil is always a sure sign that the engine is not working properly. Due to the foam, the viscosity of the oil becomes different. The rate of heat energy removal becomes lower. For this reason, oil does not flow well through the washing channels - they have a small cross section. The body parts of the engine cool down poorly, and their friction increases. Further, premature wear of parts. They become unusable. Air bubbles in the oil have a bad effect on the further operation of the engine. As a result, the term of its work is reduced. The most negative moment that awaits the owner of the car - it may end up with engine overheating or water hammer. Let's figure it out. Why is the oil foaming in the engine? Causes. Why is there such a problem as oil foaming at all? Where do bubbles come from in the oil? An experienced car enthusiast or a specialist can name several reasons at once. First: if there was a depressurization of the cooling system. The second reason: poor compatibility of different types of oils. And finally, the last thing: the formation of condensation. There are probably other causes of oil foaming. But the ones named above are the main ones. Now, we will analyze each case separately. Reason # 1. Depressurization in the car cooling system This is the main reason for mixing coolant and engine oil. Often, depressurization occurs due to the fact that the protective gasket is broken. It is installed on the cylinder head. And thus, the coolant cannot enter the engine. Cracks that have appeared on the surface of body parts - this is due to overheating, damage or old age of the metal - also lead to mixing of oil and tasol. This in turn leads to the formation of foam. If the body part is badly beaten, then it is easiest to replace it with a new one. Welding will not help here, inevitably, new cracks will appear. Such a part is already completely unusable. A kind of clue for antifreeze leakage may be white smoke coming from the car's chimney. How to determine that it is the coolant that is leaving? It's not difficult at all. You need to warm up the engine of your car for 10 minutes, and then close the exhaust system for a few seconds. Take something white. On white, traces will be clearly visible. A piece of paper works best. After a few minutes, when the sheet is dry, you can check if there are any visible stains that look like fuel fluid or oil. If not, then it is the antifreeze that is leaving. Reason # 2. Poor oil compatibility The second reason. This happens quite often. The car owner, without much hesitation, refills with a different type of oil , different from the one in the engine. To better understand this problem, let's just say that there are mineral oils that are produced by refining petroleum products. Such oils do not have an ideal structure, primarily due to the large scatter of molecules. For this reason, they have a different viscosity and freezing point. And of course they are inferior to synthetic oils. Synthetic oils are composed of molecules of the same type, without impurities. Due to their more regular structure, they are characterized by good toughness. And most importantly, they freeze only at very low temperatures. Reason number 3. Condensate One of the reasons for the formation of foam can be condensation in the internal combustion engine. The problem is in the different chemical properties of liquids, which prevent them from dissolving. Then the foam appears. The presence of foam does not mean that the engine is not working well. It also does not mean that the oil is "left". Often, condensation is an indicator of a poorly warmed-up car in winter. Because of what the moisture that is present on its parts does not evaporate.
